Facial Injectables and Fillers for Your Cosmetic Enhancement
Facial plastic surgery is not always the answer for acquiring a more youthful appearance. Facial injectables and fillers provide excellent options when you desire to cosmetically enhance your facial features without surgery. Results are usually immediate, and the cost is far lower than that of a traditional facelift.
Facial and dermal fillers can smooth out wrinkles, erase lines and add volume to soft tissue areas that have lost that full, healthy look. Whether you desire to enhance features you feel are lacking in substance or rejuvenate your appearance, the options for making a positive difference in the way you look are numerous.

Having several options available also means that your treatment will be less likely to cause an allergic reaction. This is one of the risks that can occur with facial and dermal fillers.
Dr. Khosh and Michele Rivard, PA, have extensive knowledge and experience working with these fillers, so you need not worry about their expertise in delivering results. It is important to choose the correct procedure for the job. Injectables and facial fillers are often designed to treat a specific problem area and are not necessarily interchangeable.
Choosing the Most Effective Treatment
Dr. Khosh is a dual board certified facial plastic surgeon, and Michele Rivard, PA, has specialized training in facial filler injections, neurotoxin injections, skin care and lasers. Both have extensive experience working with facial fillers and injectables and are well qualified to determine the best treatment to effectively address your specific concerns.
There are several factors to take under consideration when choosing a facial filler or injectable. Preference and cost are certainly involved but also the condition of your skin is a determining factor. Sun damage and skin tone are important considerations. Not every procedure or product works for everyone. Your doctor will advise you regarding the best options for optimal outcomes.
Fillers vs. Neurotoxins
Confusion over the different types of treatments is common. Dermal fillers are injected into the problem areas, as are neurotoxins; however, they work very differently. Fillers plump up, fill and enhance targeted areas. Injectables like Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are wrinkle relaxers. These products do not fill in or plump up areas. Rather, they temporarily paralyze the muscles that cause wrinkles. They can be used in conjunction with fillers, but on their own, they work on the muscles that lead to crow’s feet around the eyes, forehead furrows and the lines between the eyebrows.
Fillers usually contain natural ingredients that are already manufactured by the body. These include calcium hydroxylapatite, (an ingredient in Radiesse), hyaluronic acid (Juvederm, Restylane and Belotero) and autologous fat, which is harvested from another area in the patient’s body and used as a filler.
Poly-L-lactic acid is a synthetic compound ingredient used in Sculptra®. This filler encourages the production of new collagen, the fibrous matrix in the dermis. This gives skin its firmness. Sculptra is used to add volume to cheeks and fill in the sunken hollows of the face. It can also be used to thicken skin, so facial folds and lines are less noticeable.
The effects of most procedures using injectables are not totally permanent. Some may last up to a year or longer, while others may need repeat treatment after several months. Your doctor will advise you on the lifespan of the various options available for your particular problem areas.
