Dysport® Injections to Treat Frown Lines
Frown lines appear in the glabella area, which is the smooth skin between your eyebrows. Over the years, these lines may grow deeper to the point where they are visible even when you are not frowning or squinting your eyes. Dysport® is an FDA-approved treatment used to smooth the glabella area by relaxing the muscles beneath the skin.
Dysport is very similar to Botox in that it is also derived from botulinum toxins. Used in small dosages, it is safe and very effective for the temporary reduction of wrinkle lines. Dysport injections block muscle contractions by inhibiting the nerves in the muscle from signaling the brain. This action prevents the skin on top of the muscle from wrinkling and allows it to remain smooth.
Results for Dysport Treatment
Moderate to severe glabellar lines can be treated with Dysport injections. It is important to note that results, while effective are also temporary, and follow-up injections will be necessary to maintain a wrinkle-free look.
Fine needles are used to inject the Dysport into the muscles below the glabella. This usually takes about five small injections. A topical anesthetic may be used to ensure your comfort. You should not feel any pain during the procedure. You may, however, feel the pressure of the needle during the injection.
Side effects from wrinkle treatment with Dysport are minimal. The most common side effects are minor pain at the injection site. There can be some swelling around the eyelids, and some patients have experienced rash or irritation and headaches. They usually resolve on their own after a few days. Inform your doctor if they continue any longer than that.
Results from the injections are not immediate, but you will see the difference in a couple of days. Your recovery time from Dysport injections is immediate. You can resume your normal activities after you receive your treatment. You can expect the results from your Dysport injections to last between three to four months. Subsequent treatments will be necessary for maintenance.
